CICS Integration

We have integrated some of the PRO Suite of solutions with the CICS mainframe transaction processing software. This is a very unique method for integrating print applications into CICS applications; however, for organizations with these requirements, we have the technology.



CICS Integration

CICS (Customer Information Control System) is an IBM transaction processing monitor that controls the interaction between mainframe applications and users. It ensures that transactions do not get lost or damaged. It also allows programmers to develop screen displays without detailed knowledge of the terminals being used.

The Challenge: Integrate, Index, Restructure and Reengineer Legacy Applications
Running CICS, you may find yourself with the need to provide high-performance, non-intrusive integration of print output into CICS transactions. For example, you may need to have CICS applications retrieve mainframe print files and display them in text, PDF or HTML.
The Solution: PRO AFP for CICS in Your Applications
We have integrated PRO AFP into the CICS mainframe transaction processing software, seamlessly for real time usage.
Convert Print Data to Unlock Legacy Files
The CrawfordTech PRO AFP family of transforms converts AFP print files to any of the following formats: AFP, Xerox LCDS and metacode, PCL, PostScript, TIFF, PNG, Text and PDF. PRO AFP makes it easy to bridge legacy print applications into new and/or future architectures.

The above transforms are available on a wide range of platforms, including z/OS and CICS.

The process of conversion is integrated with CICS. A CICS application can pass to PRO AFP an AFP document in a VSAM dataset and PRO AFP will perform the requested conversion and pass the output of the conversion back to the user application via a VSAM dataset, in real time.

Additional Processing Options
Any or all of the following optional components can be plugged into the PRO AFP for CICS transform product. While the print stream is being converted, the data can be extracted or enhanced. This means that clients will save a significant amount of time in addition to simplifying their operational procedures.
Index Even the Most Complex Data
If you need to extract data, the PRO Indexer, a PRO Suite plug-in working in conjunction with PRO transforms, provides a reliable and robust way to get even very complex data from the print files faithfully.

With the PRO Indexer, a designer can define the extraction rules for each section using whatever algorithm works best for that particular section.

Reengineer Documents to Get More out of Them
You may need to reengineer the contents and/or the look of the documents for use with CICS transactions.

The PRO Suite includes the PRO Document Enhancer option, a powerful, highly flexible document reengineering tool. In a single production pass concurrent with the conversion process PRO Document Enhancer can:
