PRO Meta to PS provides a smooth migration path for Xerox printer customers who want to move their applications to PostScript printers without making costly application changes.
PRO Meta to PS dynamically converts Xerox LCDS and Metacode documents into standard PostScript files for printing on PostScript printers. PostScript documents can also be sent to a file for database storage or archival.
PRO Meta to PS lets organizations use a single printer for printing PostScript as well as LCDS and Metacode applications.

Flexible Resource Management
The key to the power and flexibility of PRO Meta to PS is the way it manages print resources. PRO Meta to PS handles all LPS DJDE/JSL functions and dynamically converts print resources, as needed into PostScript resources, thus optimizing and simplifying the implementation process.
Xerox fonts can either be automatically converted to PostScript bitmap fonts or mapped to PostScript Type 1 fonts. Xerox forms are transformed to PostScript forms, downloaded to a printer and accessed as needed. IMG images are converted to PostScript images, which are embedded in the output PostScript file.

Print Stream Support
PRO Meta to PS is based on the PRO Meta interpreter that supports all of the Xerox centralized printer capabilities including:

Font Handling
Superior font management is the key to providing a successful print transform program and PRO Meta to PS provides the utmost flexibility for font utilization.
PRO Meta to PS provides several methods for handling fonts, which can be mixed and matched as appropriate. The user can:
- Automatically convert Xerox fonts into PostScript fonts and download them to the printer with each job.
The PRO Meta to PS font conversion utility supports the conversion of fonts from the Xerox centralized print format into standard PostScript Type 3 bitmap fonts.
- Provide a table to map between Xerox fonts and PostScript fonts
PRO Meta to PS offers an option of mapping Xerox fonts to PostScript fonts. This eliminates the need for downloading the soft fonts in the document when they are needed. This option can be used for Xerox fonts which have equivalents in PostScript fonts.
Logo Handling
As with fonts, PRO Meta to PS provides the utmost flexibility for Xerox logos (.LGO) utilization. PRO Meta to PS provides the same methods of handling logos as it does for fonts. These methods can be mixed and matched as appropriate for different logos and applications. The user can:
- Automatically convert Xerox logos into PostScript fonts and download them to the printer with each job
- Provide a table to map between Xerox logos and PostScript printer based fonts
Image Handling
PRO Meta to PS automatically converts Xerox images and .IMG files into PostScript compressed images and embeds the images in the output PostScript file. The user can optionally have PRO Meta to PS store the converted PostScript image in a library for future print jobs, thus increasing performance.
Form Management
PRO Meta to PS provides a very efficient and simple method of managing Xerox forms (.FRM). Xerox forms are stored in a library on the host. During the transform process, these forms are loaded, as they are needed. PRO Meta to PS then accesses any resources that are needed for these forms and processes them automatically. Finally, the text on each form is put into a PostScript resource object which is stored in the printer and accessed when it is needed in the document.
Output Format
The output PostScript can be optimized through a number of run-time options which control the way that fonts are managed and the way that the PostScript is constructed. For example, shading patterns can be made darker or lighter as needed.
Transform Control Options
Because PRO Meta to PS was designed with an extensive set of control options, every facet of the transform process is controlled. Therefore, PRO Meta to PS is a fit for many different environments.
