The Electronic Document Professional – simply known as EDP – is a professional certification awarded by Xplor International. For those of you who don’t know, Xplor is an International trade association specifically focused on the transactional document market space; we’re proud to be a Platinum Sponsor of Xplor.
Participants in the EDP program are members of the electronic document industry who have met a certain number of criteria. Having an EDP certification requires that you possess a broad range of knowledge in the electronic document industry while at the same time bringing expertise to a focused area of the marketplace.
So what does it mean to have an EDP certification?
An EDP designation means that the recipient has been in the industry for at least five years and has participated in at least three major projects, showing a high level of competence in their particular area of focus.
The very first EDP was awarded back in 1990. Initially, a group of 12 professionals were given the EDP designation, and year after year more people in the industry are awarded an EDP. As a result, many people believe that having an EDP is an important part of being a professional in the electronic document industry.
In 2009, Xplor re-launched the program with three different levels of certification, including the new Master-EDP – an award given only to those at the very top of their profession. The very first ‘class’ of M-EDPs were awarded in 2010, and our very own President and Founder, Ernie Crawford, was distinguished with a Master-EDP designation during that inaugural ceremony.
"I have participated in The EDP certification program for almost 20 years for one simple reason, it is relevant and remains so as technology and human behavior changes how we communicate. The EDP community pushes the envelope in the implementation of technology creating a standard of excellence. I am proud of the EDP community and what it represents." - Skip Henk, President & CEO of Xplor International
It isn’t just the head of our business that shines the torch for EDP certification at Crawford Technologies. In fact, over 60% of our support staff has an EDP certification. It is something we’re all immensely proud of, and speaks volumes to the quality of our support services.
The EDP designation continues to be important to our industry, and we’ll continue to work towards excellence in both our industry knowledge and support services, two areas that are rewarded with EDP certifications from Xplor.
We’re proud to have a number of employees with EDPs on our staff, including three people who have achieved the rank of M-EDP. You can learn more about the program on the Xplor site.
